Painted Steel

Richard Edelman

For BEACH RUNNER I began with new steel, one-inch by an eighth-inch flat bars  purchased from a steel warehouse. I heated these and uniformly bent them into slinky-like forms that move with an internal dynamic. A later piece in the Welding Mask Series, BOB MARLEY, develops this technique further. Note also in the Welding Mask series MOSES' horns of light and and THE JESTERS' floppy hat.

My mother was living on the beach in Florida, and while running there I was thinking about what i might make for her.
