Jacob's Ladder is my first fully rendered human figure...a young man eight feet tall with hands and feet and body and facial features. I had done busts: Abraham, Isaac, Moses for example. But these cannot express the dynamic emotive power of the full human figure.

We climb in restless dreams, sometimes driven by unresolved conflicts. I am often asked why the rope ladder? Rope is flexible like the body and can show tension. The bottom of the rope entangles Jacob's left leg so that the figure and its striving become one. Jacob seems to float, supported only by rope, defying gravity.
